Simple things

Simply put
simple things enrich life

You see it; you hear it all the time.
Take time to smell the roses.
Do you?
Did you look at the intricasies of the petals? The variants of colorful veins? The tiny pollen fragments that collect on the stamens? Did the fragrance capture you or did the hue remind you of a dance, a family member, a distance memory?

We are not above or below reality. Simple things circumvent what society considers important in reality. Does that extra dollar buy your lover's kiss? Is it a kiss that burns the scent of the air, the image of scene, the feel of the skin and the surrounding sounds deep in your heart forever?

Feel the tickle of grasses and the gentle warmth of sun with a slight breeze. Simple yet beautiful. Serene. Watch a child play in the dirt, discovering sticks, mud, trees, grass, small stones. See how they all fit together. No carbon footprint, no expensive toys. Just simple. A stick flows in water; it stands up in mud. It can poke the bark on a tree, move stones around, draw pictures in the dirt.

A dog's devotion. Simple. Walk her, watch her marvel at the sounds and sights, wanting in her dog way to play, attack, or sniff them. Joy surrounds a dog. She is always happy to love you and be with you. She reflects. Observe what she reflects and strive for it to be love.

Coffee or tea with a friend. The conversation always remembered. Time is such a simple thing but hardly ours to take and give. Time is stingy sometimes. People are stingy with it. Society schedules us and drips very little our way for the really important things. Bastards. I want my tea time. With my friends. And family. They go, sometimes, without my approval. I want their words, their faces, their expressions, their emotions, their thoughtfulness, their beauty.. etched in mind forever. A simple request.

Oh so many simple things that fill us up! The wet sand squishing up in your toes, waiting for that big wave to smash against you. A snowflake caught on your tongue looking up being plummeted by hundreds of flakes melting on your face. Your favorite ice cream on a hot summer's day. A small bouquet of flowers (or weeds) freshly picked by your children with happy smiles. A hug when you need it the most, without asking.

Steal your time and take in all that is simple. Feel it from head to toe, light up every sense and remember it with fondness.

  1. Aaahh yes. I want more of those moments... surely how I felt when I had to leave you this week! Missed my family, but really enjoyed just hanging out. :-)
